Historical Background

Aesop lived in Ancient Greece between 620 and 560 BC. Though he was a slave, he became famous for his telling of fables. Whether or not he wrote them is unclear as no writings of Aesop have survived. Through the centuries, his works have been continually revised and added upon blending in material from other cultures, so that they now bear little resemblance to the original work. With recent interest in Aesop and Aesopic fable, some attempt has been made to determine the nature and content of the very earliest fables which may be most closely linked to the historic Aesop.

About This Blog

Socrates spent his last days waiting for execution by putting the fables into verse. As a fan of the fables and the lessons that they teach, I have decided to retell them in verse. It is better than just copying and posting the fables and at the same time it's mentally stimulating and challenging. At the same time, it is also fun. Poetry is a way to express oneself and there are many different types. I prefer rhyming verse so a majority of these will have some sort of rhyming pattern. It is also a good way to learn about the styles of poetry that is out there. So I hope you have as much fun reading them as I have putting them together.
